Default Bow overboard

Was ask today by someone wanting to try bowfishing. What happens when a bow goes overboard? My answer was who ever knocked it over goes swimming. So once again it has my brain going again.

I take it a bow has never hit the water out of your boat before. I guess you havent been into real heavy fihing yet then. Wait till you get into some fast and fun shootin. All the stuff flyin around and guys movin all over with constant fish a bow is bound to end up in the drink sooner or later. 3 bows have made it into the water in my boat in the last couple years. Lucky enough though the water was shallow enough to just grap then withoutgoin in. WCL

Lost one once in about 5ft., marked the spot and went swimming, walked back and forth until we found it. Solid bottom and no weeds though.

Good reason to get a dedicated fishing bow when you can.

After reading all that, it kind of worries me. I think Im going to rig some kind of float to my bow because the river where I live can keep my bow if I drop it in because there is a good chance you ant coming back if you go swimming in that turbulant snag infested wetness.

I'd go swimming if i lost my bow in the water - that is why i plan on bring mask, snorkel and fins just in case. Well, that and i plan on eventually taking scuba lessons eventually

Well came up with the idea of from balance hole were most put there retriele systom. Attach a section of paracute cord and to the other end a milk jug, or a small bouy. Tried it tonight. Need about 8 ft of cord milk jug is light enough can be pulled around with out any problem. Buddy used 6 ft of cord with a d ring on other end d ring attach to belt lope the only complaint he had was cord got in way of getting bow in postion to retreive fish.

Instead of going through all of that, why not just put on a wrist strap? It serves two purposes; one, it helps illiminate bow torque, and two, it dummy cords the bow to you. Now I wouldn't recommend this for anyone going for aligator, monster aligator gar, or any of the larger species. However if fishing for the smaller species; carp, spotted gar, bowfin ect. it should prove to be beneficial. They can be foundin prices ranging from $5 to $?.

Just thought I would throw in my $.02.
