Well done!
Those pics show it very well.

Since you don't want to soak them in water, how do you store them?
Wrapped in butcher paper or waxed paper?

Most Excellent Pictorial !!! But you left out the photo of the initial hatchet chop to the head by Carpsniper so you could start those tin snips, YOW!

That's a good point Rob. It is much harder than you would think to chop through that shell. You need a solid surface. I used a piece of plywood on a metal workshop table. You can't be tentative about the swing either.

Nice job with that page. Except the hatchet part, you did it the same as us.

If the club is interested, we can give you our gar cleaning segment video clip from the new video as a windows media file to add to that page. It is about a minute and a half.

I use the food saver vacuum packer that I use on my deer and wild turkey. Before that I used ziploc backs and just got as much air out as possible.

By the way, I like to use a hack saw to cut across the back of the head where the gill plate starts and cut half way down or so to get a good spot to start the cut with the tin snips. EMT shears work pretty good too. The hack saw really is a time saver there. A few guys had a shoot last year at Glen Elder lake in Western KS and thought they would try some cordless reciprocating saws and cut off saws; guess one of them was a contractor or something. Anyhow...guess it didn't work out as well as they thought and slung stuff every which way!

I always thought you nailed them to a board, put all the spices you wanted on them. put the board in the oven and bake. Take out of oven, throw away the gar, and eat the board. Just kidding, Gar is not bad.
