What poundage ?

I have an extra compound that I was going to rig up to bowfish. How many pounds should I set the bow up for ? This will be my first time try this. Looks like great fun though.

RE: What poundage ?

light as possible, 35-40.

shooting thru the fish is no problem, it's pulling it out of the weed that sucks.

You don't want to be 2 feet down in the mud or heaven forbid 8" deep into a stump.

I have a bear compund that I think I can back off enough to get to 40. I also have an old 70's model Pearson Hunter recurve. Are there any rigs that dont "bolt" on ? There are no holes in my recurve to accept a reel etc...

I use a gadget adapter on my one recurve. Several sources have them. I think I got mine from Sully's.

My recurve is at 45#.

Slugman, my recurve doesn't have any holes either, and no room to drill them since the riser is so thin. I made a mounting plate out of wood that has the right hole spacing for the reels and have the wood attached by some worm clamps and some rubber to keep the clamps from eating into the bow. It's not pretty, but it's never come loose.

In the next year or two I'll get a new takedown that's all predrilled.

RE: What poundage ?

Whatever poundage you feel comfortable shooting is fine. Experience will teach you whether or not it's too much. We have this one big ox in the club that shoots a recurve that's 70-pounds or something like that! (just kidding Kendall) I personally shoot a 55-pound recurve. I take longer shots, so I want to make sure my arrow gets there.

Anything from 40 on up is plenty good.
