I can't believe you haven't heard of it. As soon as summer hits, we have great success just running the shore line. We shoot loads and loads of carp and gar. The one thing you'll quickly realize is that you'll shoot a whole hell of a lot more than you'll hit.

Is there a way that i could jimmy rig a kit, or would i be better off buying one?

Probably better off getting a retriever reel and slides if starting off. If you already have a bow (preferably an old one you don't use much), you don't need to buy another one. Also better if you can find someone to go with who already knows what they're doing.
