Default Best blade steel for Huntng knife

I'm wanting to surprise my boy with a new hunting knife with a handle made out of the deer antler he got this year. Any suggestions on what the best steel would be. I was looking at maybe D2 blade with a full tang.

Also any suggestion on where to buy the blade?

Thanks

I like the 1095 green river blanks.

You will have to use your imagination because mine was not made for a gift so its nothing fancy and has been used heavily.

If you can find an old crosscut saw, it makes excellent knives. Cut your blank with a cold chisel and shape on a grinder. Do not heat the blade at all.

Edge of the image in the middle is for you.
But will want to prove it as a finished knife.

And to tell the two blades.
First is quigleysharps4570 and steel 440B, total length 23cm., only the blade is 12 cm. and is 3,8 mm. thick.
The handle will use stabilized room of walnut and mosaic pins.

Blade kellyguinn is H12MF steel and hardened to 60-61 units.
The blade is 13,5 cm. long, and 4 mm. thick.
