tc omega
I am amazed by the accuracy out of these guns...I got a new thumbhole/fluted stainless barrel omega a couple weeks ago and sighted it in yesterday with 100 grains pyrodex pellets and 200 gr shockwaves. At 100 yards, I was getting 5/8" groups or better consistently without swabbing. I guess I just wanted to brag and see what kind of groups everyone else is getting with what loads...

RE: tc omega
with shooting like that, you have good reason to brag. Thompson Center rifles are great rifles. And their customer service and support are second to none. Sounds like a winning combination to me.
I shoot a Black Diamond XR and mine is also an outstanding shooting rifle. Not as easy to clean as yours but overall I have no complaints.... Good luck with your rifle... |
RE: tc omega
encore owner here (209X50), great shootin man, you have every right to be proud, as cayugad mentioned t/c is hard to beat on quality

RE: tc omega
The T/C blackpowder rifles are incredible. I have an omega and can consistenly get 1" or better groups at 100 yards. These guns are amazing. This is the only blackpowder i've owned so i cant really compare to any other.

RE: tc omega
PA_BOW_HUNTER .. and others when the rifles shoot groups like that it is all the muzzleloader your would really need. The others are just fun. No really, I have a T/C Black Diamond XR and it too will shoot excellent groups, but I really enjoy the old time flintlocks and sidelock rifles for shooting and hunting as well.

RE: tc omega
I just spent the afternoon shooting mine, Just getting ready to clean it actually. A little soap and water and I will be done. Smooth trigger although I can not compare it to a more expensive one as I have never tried one. I am a novice at blackpowder but I don't think you can go wrong with this gun!!
100 grains 777 pellets 240 gr. Dead centers 1.5" group at 100 yards |
RE: tc omega
i also have the omega and my groups arent as good as that but i get about 1'' groups at 100 yrds. 100 grains of pyrodex pellets, tp 240 grain xtp bullet
|
RE: tc omega
xxxbuckshot, I tried the 240 grain xtp's out of mine too and I could not get groups at all. I mean about 6" groups at 100 yards. I don't know why, but I'm glad to see you can do good with them. I'll stick with the SST's for now.

RE: tc omega
Hey 12 Pointer just curious as to how much you had to give for the gun? The reason I ask is because I have a two year old Omega but would like to get the new one with the thumbhole stock. I've been looking at them for some time now and have seen them in Cabelas and other outdoor stores for around $600. Well to get to the point I was in my local Wal-Mart the other day and saw they had one.(and one is all they had) Well they had it priced for $492.00 and thats a heck of a price difference. Do you or anyone else have any opions on buying guns from Wal-Mart. I've bought a couple of .22's from there for coon hunting and stuff but have heard stories that the guns they recieve are not the quality of guns you would get anywhere else. Sounds strange just curious. Thanks

RE: tc omega
Hey alwysshntn,
Why not just replace your stock with a factory thumbhole stock? Much cheaper than buying a new rifle and you don't have to take a hit depreciation-wise on trying to sell your existing Omega? Try www.midsouthshooterssupply.com THOMPSON CENTER ACC OMEGA THUMBHOLE COMPOSITE REPLACEMENT STOCK Order No: Status: Price: 030-7863 On Order $108.19 THOMPSON CENTER ACC OMEGA THUMBHOLE HARDWOODS CAMO REPLACEMENT STOCK Order No: Status: Price: 030-7870 On Order $157.59 THOMPSON CENTER ACC OMEGA THUMBHOLE GRAY LAMINATE REPLACEMENT STOCK Order No: Status: Price: 030-7871 In Stock $179.08 As far as your question regarding buying low end weapons. It does not matter where you purchase a lower end weapon. It's still a low end weapon. ;) |
RE: tc omega
No major manufacturer would sort guns and ship "lower quality" fireams out to different distributors. It would not be good business as well as too expensive a process for them to take on anyway. Major manufacturers of any product just can't do that kind of thing. If they were to do so and anyone took them to court over it they could not justify the process consesquently it is not done.

RE: tc omega
Hi Keith,
I've seen this with not only muzzleloaders but with shotguns and centerfire rifles, manufacturers have either re-named or have had lower end models for the large retail chains. BPI makes ML's for both CVA and Winchester branding. The CVA's are considered a lower line model as the Winchesters are dressed up a bit with nicer sights and stocks and the like. Functionally the exact same though. Also, if I remember correctly: Mossberg also made the "Maverick" line of shotguns for large retailers. The maverick was a low end MB500. Barrel and reciever were the exact same. Just lower end materials on stocks and triggers. This is not to say a lower line rifle is any less safe than a higher end one. |
RE: tc omega
alwyshtn,
After my experience with WalMart trying to get my gun I will probably never buy any gun from there again. I have bought a 270 and a Mossberg 835 from there no problem, but these were both in stock there. I priced Omegas everywhere, and like you I found that walmart was cheapest. I put the 50% down and they ordered it. They called their warehouse and yes, they had them in stock, so it should be in in a couple weeks. Well, about 10 days later, they call me and say that Omegas have been on backorder for 2 months and they dont know when they will get more. So I go out there and get my money down back and call a small local dealer and order it from him. The day I order it from him Wal Mart calls...My gun that they could not get misteriously appeared and they have it there waiting for me. I told them I have already ordered it and i didnt want it. The local dealer only took 2 days to get the gun in, and I am glad I helped his business more than walmart. I would rather support a smaller dealer with personal service that backs their products rather than walmart which doesnt even know much about sporting goods. As for the quality of guns at walmart- They are the same as anywhere else. Think about it- If an Omega from walmart is less quality than anywhere else, then TC is not going to put their name on it because they would not put their name on something less in quality. As for the price, I did end up paying more for it, but I dont really care, I just wanted the gun after everything that had happened. I paid $569 total. I dont know whether I would get a new gun or stock. Probably a stock because then you shouldnt have to work up a new load or anything, but thats up to you. Well, I think ive covered everything you asked, sorry about the whole novel...good luck with the Omega, they are awesome guns!! |

Correct only in trim and options, not mfg tolerances.

RE: tc omega
I might be able to shed some light on the Wally World question. I was in a Walmart a few months ago and noticed a TC BLK Diamond XR 50 cal camo/sst that was priced exceptionally low. I asked the manager if that was a special closeout price or regular price. Turned out to be the normal Walmart price so the next day I called TC and asked them if they did anything special for Walmart. I talked to two customer service reps that wasn't sure and then was passed on to the customer service manager. I was told that TC did make a special RUN of the BLK Diamond ML for Walmart. Basically the same ML with a few cheaper items, such as the stock, sights, and the 209 ignition system (normally comes with three - No.11 cap, Musket Cap, and 209).
Long story made short, I bought the ML thinking I got a great deal but then returned it after discovering the difference.....no big price saving when I added up the cost of what they changed or left out. WORD TO THE WISE.......IF THE PRICE IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE AT WALMART, BE SURE YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE BUYING. THIS IS THE WAY WALLY WORLD OPERATES! |
