That's a great rifle and a great caliber. Good luck with it. I have a number of them and would not part with any of them.

Is this the rifle you just shot that doe with? They say that the .54 is the 30-06 of muzzleloaders. Sounds like you done well.

On a different forum I read a post of a person that killed a moose shooting a .54 caliber Renegade loaded with roundball on top of 90 grains of powder. That might not sound too amazing but I believe (without looking again) that the distance he shot was like 170 yards. Now that is amazing to think that a roundball from a .54 caliber would still have that kind of power to dispatch an animal the size of a moose at that distance.

A .54 caliber roundball is one of the most knock down projectiles you can shoot. I know from first hand experience it will take out, knock flat on the ground, two deer with one shot. Not something I am proud of but something that happened to me about seven years ago, hunting.

When I first got into this sport way too many years ago I was introduced to it from a friend shooting a .58 caliber CVA sidelock. I was so amazed at the accuracy and power. I looked for a .58 but could only find a .54 caliber T/C Renegade kit. I think I paid $129.00 (at that time that was still a lot of money [:@] ). I still shoot that rifle. Although I have put a T/C peep sight on it. I also added about 10 other rifles...

You are really going to like shooting the .54 caliber rifle. They can do it all. Keep us posted on how well it shoots for you... Also for your information, Green Mountain Barrel Co. sells replacement barrels that will drop right into that stock. I have a .58 caliber and a .62 caliber that fit mine. They are excellent shooters and great quality....
