777 pellet equivalence

From my understanding 777 pellets are not just 50gr of 777 loose pelletized? Right? 3 777 50gr pellets are supposed to build the same pressure as 3 pyrodex pellets? Is this correct? So is 3-777 pellets the same as 130gr of loose 777 ffg? Has anyone tried comparing velocities?

Thanks for all who respond.

Also, does anyone think that 777 is much less corrosive than pyrodex or Goex? Is is alot more corrosive than smokeless?

RE: 777 pellet equivalence

T7 pellets are supposed to be equivalent to Pyrodex pellets.

Loose T7 is supposed to be more potent than loose pyrodex or pellets, by about 15% or so. This is all heresay, I've never used T7.

Your math looks right to me.

RE: 777 pellet equivalence

You are correct on your understanding of the 777 pellets. They are formulated to shoot like regular Pyro pellets, so they ARE weaker than an equivalent measure of loose 777. If I had to give a "seat of the pants" estimate of an equivalent charge - I'd say the 3 777 pellets are probably about the same as 120gr of loose 777.....................and really, 120gr of loose 777 is probably a max load anyway - going above that is probably not gonna help your shooting any and COULD be dangerous over time IMHO.

I really haven't tried my luck with 777's corrosiveness - but seeing how easy it cleans up, I would have to guess that it is probably less corrosive than Pyro and MUCH less so than Black. But regardless of powder, Muzzleloaders need to be cleaned aggressively or there will be problems - they can't be treated like smokeless firearms..................not if you want to keep them serviceable for years to come.

RE: 777 pellet equivalence

bigcountry,

You are right on - on my powder scales - 3 pellets of 50 grain t7 on the average weighs out to 121.6 grains of loose.

I really think that t7 is cleaner than either pyro or BP, either pryro or t7 is less corrosive than BP. But I don't kow that I can say t7 is less corrosive than pyro - but definitely cleaner and over a chrono seems to have less load variations in velocity.

You probably have been reading some of my threads/posts on 777 pellets lately Big Country. On a high side, you may see an indiviual 50-grain 777 pellet equal to 42 grains 777 loose... on a light side 40 grains because packaged pellets come inconsistent from the Hodgdon factory.

On a another discussion in this thread, Pyrodex is more corrosive than real blackpowder & is also more hygroscopic than blackpowder or even 777.
