anbody have any info on "cheap" muzzleloaders??
i know a kid who wants a muzzleloader, and wants to spend around $200. it has to take the 209 primers, and should be stainless. i am trying to work a deal on a knight wolverine, but i don't know much about the other brands. one we are looking at is the nef huntsman. what are some other good ones? are there any that are junk, and should be avoided?
thanks |

Check Cabelas.. they were selling a CVA STaghorn with a nickel barrel for $89.95. The rifle has 209 ignition, .50 caliber, and a 24 inch barrel. Overall it looked like a heck of a deal. Better be, I bought one. :D

A store here in Ohio called Gander Mountain has a Knight American. It is a starter kit with Camo stock, 209 conversion kit included, shoulder strap, and some accesories for $179. I do not know about the barrel finish, but I prefer a blued barrel myself.

The american knight has a 22 inch Green Mountain barrel (I believe) with a 1-28 twist. It is an excellent rifle. Knight is a excellent rifle and company for all the postings I have seen.
People that own them love them. Only one person I know shoots an American Knight. He loads 100 grains of powder and a knight brand sabot, unsure of the grain, but I watched him shoot at the range and he is ACCURATE! Thats a nice price on a good rifle. I think that is a rifle that you would be real pleased with.... |
RE: anbody have any info on "cheap" muzzleloaders??
T-Roy, I've had a stainless No. 11 cap wolverine for 5/6 years and problem free. Someday Im going to upgrade to 209. American Hunter did a test of the 209 Wolverine and it lasted 1 hour under water and still shot, it was the winner of the muzzleloaders they tested. My dad just bought a blue Huntsman as a self test, inch high out of the box at 100, he didnt even adjust the sights. It's very good quality and very accurate. Probably the best gun for the price. He will either get another in stainless or a Buckwacka. I did a search for the Stag Horn on here for my dad, not to many comments. The CVA Eclipse and the Traditions Tracker 209 had good comments, accurate and satisfied owners. BUT, Knight and NEF will BE better quality. Good luck,,Ruffhunter

Seems to me that NEF Huntsman you are looking at would be a pretty good choice. Maybe the best choice. I very much like mine in spite of a few things I would have them do differently.

lonewolf, got any pics? does it take the primers?
steve, go to www.hr1871.com, and go to their forum/hrtalk. they have quite a few opinions on the huntsman. the problems they seem to be having are relatively minor. |
