Default Question about fouling

OK, I have heard guys talking about "fouling" their muzzleloader after cleaning and before hunting in order to ensure the right shot placement. How do you do this? Do you just fire a cap or primer without powder or do you fire a cap or primer with powder? Thanks.

Default RE: Question about fouling

I load 30 grains -- then a toilet paper ball stuffed down with the non-jag end of the ramrod. I only use fouling shots to test new bullets, powders, lubes & patches at the range. Normally, I swab out most of the oil with a dry patch -- run two alky patches -- then two dry patches & I'm ready to shoot.
