Alliant Black MZ

I just read in AmericanHunter.org that Alliant Powder is discontinuing its Black MZ powder. Its a shame if true. I've been having excellent results with it. Fortunately I've amassed about 8 lb. of it. Going to try and find more.

I JUST RECEIVED A RESPONSE FROM ALLIANT POWDER: THEY STATED THAT AT THIS POINT THERE IS NO MENTION OF BLACK MZ BEING DROPPED FROM THE PRODUCT LINE.

Yeah, i would hate to see Black MZ powder go away. Been using that powder since it first came out. Black MZ was hurt by the previous failures of its maker, APP, and badmouthing by shooters who could not make the stuff work.

Got to buy some more soon.

I just sent Alliant an email for verification. Supposedly, the Blue MZ pellets by Alliant are NOT discontinued.

I just switched to Blue MZ pellets in December.... for a 2018 trial/testing period. So far - so good. Less residue in the bore afterwards than with Blackhorn. What's lacking is increased bullet speeds that Blackhorn brings (per equal volume used).

Less speed is fine with me. I quit using magnum-type powder loads four years ago. Content with two pellets - that reach 150 yard harvests for me. Content with noticeably less recoil and no hassles keeping breechplugs clean on range visit days.

The #1 thing I'll watch using Blue MZ pellets in 2018, is how it reacts to Michigan's Great Lakes humidity levels. How will the humidity affect ignition of those pellets. That will determine for me if the blue pellets are a keeper, or a goner in 2019.

That would be a shame it is a great powder for side locks.

But it doesn't work with percussion cap ignitions reliably because it has a higher combustion temp.
Besides that's your opinion and you know what they say about opinions.
Alliant Black MZ works with all inlines and with caplock sidelocks. The ads say it is good for all muzzleloaders but I don't think I'd rely on it in a flinter.

If you tried BlueMZ you also tried Whitehots. MSDS is the same and made under the same patent.

Email arrived finally, Here's what they said about Black Mag MZ discontinuation.

Joseph,
I have not been informed that it is being dropped.
What I have been told is that there has been large amount sitting in the warehouse for some time. Until this is sold, an assessment will then be made as to when the next batch may be made.

Thanks,

Yes this is the same response I received from them. That is why I edited the original post to state this.
