Not sure what that has to do with anything. Last 2 years i used just 70gr by volume of BH209 and a lead conical. Estimated fps is 1300fps. Certainly not a long range load in any book.

That 70grV is around 49gr by weight.

How much BlackMz would you need by weight to get around 1300fps with a 350-465gr conical? My ignition is flawless btw with a standard 209. I cant imagine why some people have so many issues getting it to go bang. Single finger/thumb loading conical and a veggie wad has yet to fail. Year before last it was left loaded for over a month. Bullet hit right where i aimed when i "unloaded" it.

I can feel the difference between it and Goex (Mz isn't a powerful, but I think smokier) AND very easy to clean not only afterward, at home but wiping down at range too as well as being more cost effective ($25 for Goex, $19 for Pyrodex, $11 for MZ where I live in CA and GOEX you practically have to give a DNA sample and background check to buy ONE POUND ONLY! of goex)

I save my GOEX for the front stuffer (50 cal GPR) but MZ is my general purpose work horse (I even use it my schofield/colt cartridge reloads)

In them revolvers its probably a blessing. Real black is super messy in them. I had a Ruger Old Army. Even Pyro was filthy and a PITA in the ROA.

I guess I'll have to get the crony out when I get back up north and do some velocity testing. I have a bit of BH209 left so I'll check MV with it, Black MZ and BP.
Then check how much wt I would need to get the same MV with each powder.

As long as my future tests reveal good ignition in subpar weather / humidity, I will add a third blue pellet, if my 150 yard paper target holes fall below expectations to my previous Goex.

My main concern is not speed. What concerns me with Alliant MZ is ignition in all subpar weather.

Well its non-hydroscopic so it won't absorb moisture. And their ad says its suitable for all muzzleloaders. Although that may be so I don't think I would use it in a flinter. I have used it in humid weather in my caplock without issue.

Bronco, I can not find any information on the Aliant site that indicates these Blue Pellets are non-hydroscopic... maybe I am just reading over the top of it... or are talking about Black MZ? which I know will clump very easily... Alliant says it is "moisture resistant" but not non-hydroscopic

The ingredients of the pellet appear to be the normal thing
