Time to put the muzzleloader to work!

Ohio's muzzleloader season opens today. It's a nice warm -2 currently. Not sure how long I'll last but I plan on sticking it out for as long as possible. I'll be hunting off the back side of some ag fields hoping to get the deer moving for food. Season is open Today through Tuesday. Hope to get my first muzzleloader deer.

Good luck.

It was COLD today.

I lasted three hours before needing a break, then did some still hunting, which is my favorite way to hunt.

Didn't see any deer today. It's supposed to warm up a bit tomorrow. Hopefully the deer are moving.

It did feel good to be out with a muzzleloader though.

it was very cold out today. minus 6 in geauga county & in a ground blind with a big mr buddy heater . very toasty inside. never saw a deer move they were bunkerened down to preserve energy.stayed till 6pm& heard 1 shot all day. a buddy of mine sent me a picture of aprox 60 deer bunched up together walking a trail into a state game land & he never heard a shot go off.going out again tomorrow on sundaythe 7 th. heading to 25 deg. you know deer will be out feeding .monday calls for almost 40 & rain in the afternoon. tues calls for 28 & getting colder.

Can't still hunt when it's so cold the snow squeaks under foot and you can only see 60-70 yards. Besides its no use still hunting when you haven't seen a single track in the snow for over a week!

Ya but I can't sit still in those temperatures lol!

t.shaffer... I'll be out the rest of the season. Mostly in the afternoons... Hope they start moving!

We had a bad drought here and the deer migrated to the river and the lakes.

Nothing on the last day.

I have a special draw hunt on January 26th at a local waterfowl preserve. Hoping to make some smoke that day. I'll update the thread after that hunt!

Nice work!! 6 is a good pile of meat! :happy0001:

The necks in my area would have shot him. They don't care about tags and rules. :(
I've hunted late ML a few times in deep snow. Shot a big doe once that slid about 150yds down a ridge after I shot her. Looked like a seal on national geographic - sliding down like she planned it :happy0157::happy0157:
