T/C white mountain carbine, load an shooting tips needed
Hey folks I got this tc white mountain carbine cpl yrs back. Never shot it. But I got all the ammo the local gun shop told me would work. T7 powder, 240grn cheap shot sabots with the black lil plastic holders, and no 11 caps. Will this work for me? Nvr shot bp and just wanna make sure I'm setup right b4 I try to test her out asap. Muzzloader season just started but wanna make sure it's still sighted in an how far etc etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tia

Im confused
If you never shot it, how would it still be sighted in?
And no, its a very bad idea to use pellets with #11 caps. They are better with 209 primers. Use loose powder for caps.

i've got a white mountian, its made for sabots the barrels a fast twist i think 1/20 I've used pyrodex 90 grains (loose powder) and 300xtp's and harvester crushed rib sabots...shoots good....black powder would be good too . 90 grain powder and a saboted 45 cal bullet should be good for hunting .....to be sure you'd have to try 80-85-90 grains and see what gives you best groups...i had 4 inch groups at 50 yards not great be good enough to kill a deer ..ed

4" groups at 50 yards and you call that good enough to kill a deer? That is flat out horrible. stripercrazy, you most definitely need to be finding a better combination for that rifle. I've heard a lot about white mountain rifles and Doc White. I believe he would consider that grouping a supreme failure if that was the best he could get from it. I know I wouldn't trust it with that poor of shooting. I wouldn't accept a 4" group at 100 yards from any of my rifles let alone 50 yards. I was raised to do my absolute best to deliver a quick and ethical kill on anything I was hunting. That would include having equipment that I can be sure of.

Oh okay. Freehand is something most don't consider using for group testing. For group you should always use a properly rested rifle from either bench or prone. Grouping is testing the rifle for consistency as well as your loads. Then you test for form in field positions.
