But that is much better Ron. All 3 shots would have resulted in a dead deer.
But gee whiz 12*! Maybe you shot better because you were partially frozen???
Keep up the good work.

... and when shooting off a stick isn't enough you can carry around a bench. That's a better idea than just practicing something wrong or practicing not knowing how to do something.

The guy asks how to improve his off hand shooting and the most common answers. "Don't do it." and "Practice doing it wrong more."

Sure does explain a lot about the things you see and hear during and after hunting season.

Practice doing it wrong more?? Just where did you see someone say anything of the sort there Jack? And just what do you have against the use of a shooting stick. After a ton of shoulder injuries as well as a ton of AGE, I had to go to using one so I could actually stay out there hunting! It brought my shooting game back to the efficiency I require of MYSELF to stay out there hunting. The last thing I EVER want to do is take a risky shot that I don't 100% have confidence in!! Yes someone gave some incorrect advise about practicing with a .22 but that was immediately corrected and reasons given FOR the correction. And I don't think anyone has said "don't do it". What some of us have done was offer an alternative to freehand with the use of a support aid such as a Mono or shooting sticks. How about before being a jerk, you actually read what has been written there Jack!!

Ron - that same advice was given to me during my competitive years by a local young man by the name of Carl Bernosky. Our shooting club had two teams. He was on one while I was on the other. We would shoot 4 position matches and he would shoot all his shots offhand and usually beat us all. He's been in the competitive shooting game for a long time with several national championships and other awards. Google him.

This morning it was 6 degrees, and lightly snowing. Stood in the same spot as yesterday, made 3 shots; came home.

I also am not so good with offhand shooting. And I don't do it much. Knowing you Ron, you'll continue to improve. By next season you'll be an off hand marksman :)

Fwiw, I haven't ever seen many folks that can shoot offhand with good consistency, other than a couple guys who were military/ex military. Maybe finding a military rifle instructor could give you some advice.

Ron,

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is..........well...........foolish.

All you've proved is you're not consistent at 90 yds.

ronlaughlin 02-02-2017 02:20 PM

OK, i will quit.
