A new Thor?
Not sure who's making them for Thor or when they'll be available, but these are experimental as far as I know.
They are .451" diameter and wait for it..... wait for it..... Aluminum and weight in at 63 grains and with a max load " assuming its blackhorn209" will hit in the 2900-3000 FPS range. I was told they are for the fast twist 1:28 rifles, but I'll certainly be trying them out when I get a chance and see what they'll do in a 1:48 twist. If they do half way decent at 100 yards in my sidelock, I'll think about trying one out on a hog. ![]() ![]() |
Bullet weight......... 63 grains???
|
Eh, I personally think those would pretty much have horrible terminal ballistics. Aluminium fractures rather than being malleable so "blow ups" rather than penetration would be way to common. Especially from such a light bullet. I'd have to see some serious penetration tests with harder contact than ballistic gel before I'd put any faith in that bullet. Also, with such a light bullet, downrange performance would be near nil since it would have little to no momentum even with those high predicted muzzle velocities.

At 100yds and zeroed, it would have approximately 800fpe. Woodchuck bullet?
|
Maybe yote bullets! I certainly wouldn't trust it for deer or any larger hogs. Maybe a 60 pounder for the grill :D But as I stated earlier, just going by weight/size as well as material, I just don't see penetration values being anything I could trust. Maybe a flat shooting paper puncher for 100 yards but given the size of .451 and very light weight, the wind would play some serious havoc with that bullet.

Maybe there finally will be a bullet worse than a powerbelt aerolite, or maybe the 63 gr is a typo:)
