Default I took some advice

Cayugad and I were PMing back and forth a bit about using MMP sabots and 405 grain .458" bullets.
I shot my T/C Hawken with the GM LRH barrel with this combo using 80 gr of Goex FFg.
At 50 yards, peep sight, all I can say is WOW! Swabbing between shots this charge put 3 bullets into a cloverleaf about 1" left of the bull at 9 O'clock. A tap left of the front sight about 1'16" put the next 2 in the 1' bull! I then began having some fun busting fist sized sandstone rocks that stick out like a sore thumb on the black coal bank where we shoot. After this shooting session I have determined that THIS will be the other rifle I will be taking on my hog/deer hunt in lieu of the .58.

That's something I've got to try Bronko. I've shot a ton of 300 grain .458 Speer hollow points with MMP sabots, but never any 405 grainers.

Years ago I got a good deal on a whole bunch of those 300 grain Speers, so that's what I used. They shoot pretty well. But I've always suspected the classic old 405 grain might be even better. I know the heavier ones are more accurate in my 45-70.

What twist is your Hawken? I may have to cast some of them myself and try that bullet with my Deerstalker. I know my name 350gr HP shoot well with it.

When I was shooting them in the orange Kinght .458 sabots, like you ... I was shocked at how accurate those 423 grain (405 out of pure lead) .458 Lee mold bullets were. The rifle was scoped mind you, but at 50 yards that old Staghorn would lay them in the bull almost every time.

Semisane, let me check my stock.

Ed - that barrel has a 1:28 twist. Those 405 smack with authority too. A couple of the stones I shot were vaporized and you could hear the smack when they hit.

I thought the use of sabots is supposed to be discussed on the regular BP forum... Do we have any moderators or not? We went through the process of starting a traditional forum so why don't we keep it that way?

Anyone who disagrees can go back and read the rules...

Why don't we keep it even simpler and go back to one forum for all. You know you look at them both anyway.

Yes, and we can go back to all the BS we had before as well if you'd like.
