Conversation with our son led me to believe he has considered purchasing a nonresident whitetail doe tag, and coming down here during muzzleloader season. This requires me to prepare another rifle for hunting. What i did was mount a one power scope on the Omega Dream Season, and start shooting it a few days ago. One of the first things i learned was the crush ribs were OK for the first shot with the 0.451" Parker Ballistic Extreme, but became too loose with succeeding shots. Seems Blackhorn soot is a lubricant. So the short black Harvester sabot were used, for these bullets, in this rifle. From past experience i figured the smooth sabot would be almost too tight in the clean barrel, so i loaded the rifle yesterday, immediately after cleaning the rifle; after the final dry patch.
This morning it was 54 degrees up there, and virtually no breeze.....perfect! The 'first shot' from the cold squeaky clean barrel is the high shot. Succeeding shots loaded OK into the now fouled barrel. It was cool enough, i loaded, and shot with no hesitation, as if i were hunting.

After shooting three of the Parker 275g Ballistic Extreme, i walked up to the target, and photographed it. Earlier when i left the house i remembered the Nosler bullets were also 0.451" diameter, had a notion, and grabbed a box. The next three shots on target were made using the Nosler bullets. On the second target photo, the holes made by the Parker bullets are dyed red to differentiate.
