Default Alliant Black MZ

Good afternoon, Gentlemen

Admittedly, I have been away the site for a while and even shooting due to obligations to this thing called, life. I was in Sportsman's Warehouse over lunch picking up some items for deer season and noticed a shelf full of Alliant Black MZ power for $9.99 a can.

I can honestly say, unless this is a re-branded powder, I don't believe I've tried or even heard of it. What's the scoop on it? Surely one of you all have thoroughly tested it.

Hope everyone is doing well and getting excited for the fall!

American pioneer makes it. Its actually a consistent powder. I enjoyed it.

i use Black MZ powder almost exclusively. Black MZ likes a tight sabot seated hard on the powder.

Someone will soon come along and tell you the stuff is no good.

From what I recall that's a good price. I played with it a bit and also with BH209. both good powders but I seem to get as good or better groups with Pyrodex and Black Powder. I likely don't get the velocity I would with MZ or BH.
But to be honest I don't think I gave MZ much effort. I guess I could have played with it more.
At that price I'd try it again.
I just went on their site and I will be passing 2 of their stores on Sat on my way to FL. I may just stop by and grab a couple cans.

I bought two pounds of it at $9.99 from there... it does smell and look like APP. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

It is APP. Supposedly it goes through better screening. The last time I tested it, it shot tight and consistent over the chrony.

I was only 10 miles from the SC store on my way to FL yesterday so I stopped by and grabbed 3 cans. For $10 you can't beat the price. I may just stop on my way back home and get some more if they have any left.
Or better yet, my cousin is coming down on Saturday maybe I'll tell him to get me 2 or 3 more cans.
