Default Black .451-.452 crush ribs with .458 bullets

Any of you guys ever gave them a swing? I was in the shop earlier and decided to see how hard those .458 220gr Bloodlines were to shove down that TC Impact with the super tight bore with the black crush rib sabots. It was actually MUCH easier than using the orange MMP's. Now, my question is, will they shoot well since the sabot base size is .452 and the bullet is .458? We are having a bit of a blizzard here so I couldn't take it out and shoot it to see for myself. Just wondering if any of you guys have ever tried that combination.

I use a MMP HPH-24 to shoot 459x305 grain Lehighs all the time. Should not be a problem at all,

Good because I had to just about jump up and down on the short starter to get those .458's started with the orange MMP's. My daughter is MUCH smaller than I and more than likely not have the umph to do it herself. Those black crush rib makes them a LOT easier to go down.

That's interesting! I never-had imagined getting that .458 down the bore that way.

I hadn't either. Was fooling around in the shop earlier and just dawned on me to give it a swing. I was surprised to see how much easier it went down. Just a bit stiffer than my .451x240gr cheap shot bullets but not really a lot. Hopefully, if it clears up enough this weekend, I can get the munchkin out for some real shooting and find out if those 220's shoot well out of that Impact.

Its pretty common with some rifles like the Savage MLII. Lots of those guys use 458s with the Harvester Black Crushrib sabot.

Out of all the MLers I have owned over the years, this little Impact has to have the tightest bore of them all. But I really think the munchkin will really like it. My granddaughter is already chomping at the bit to shoot it as well. Looks like the munchkins little niece is going to be her shooting buddy Just have to get loads developed that they can handle the recoil as well as not have to stand on the short starter and jump up and down on it to get the bullets started

My Knight Vision bore is similar to your Impact. Even the same brass bore brush needs a stern push up & down the Knight, versus that of my T/C and Traditions 50-cal MLs. Crushed Ribs are it's only friend.

I swapped my remaining T/C Cheapshots over to short MMP EZ-load 3-petals.

Try a .452 bullet and a MMP Orange sabot in the tight bore Impact. Loaded OD should be a tad less than a MMP 3P-EZ. About the same as a yellow T/C SuperGlide sabot which is the smallest OD sabot i can find.

The MMP Orange is kinda long though so you may need to trim them if using a short bullet.

I wouldn't have ever thought of that. I have hundreds of the black CR sabots but ordered a bag of the orange MMPs to shoot some .458s out of. I just may try this.
