If you were to ask Santa for a new ML rifle, which one? (no customs)

I already own 50-cal 1:28s and 1:66 MLs. So I would ask Santa for either a 45-cal in 1:20 or a 54-cal in 1:48. My pick is......

Lyman Deerstalker 54-cal 1:48 twist.
What's yours?

Grouse45 12-20-2015 09:48 AM

Not sure why, but that ultimate Barnesaddict has strikes my interest.

Muley Hunter 12-20-2015 09:51 AM

No customs killed it for me. Otherwise, it would be a custom Hawken as close to the original as possible.

Triple Se7en 12-20-2015 09:54 AM

I thought about a Pedersoli half-stock, instead of the Lyman. I picked a half-stock because I promised myself I would never buy another full-stock ML again. A couple of those Pedersoli long rifles are not considered custom MLs and are beautiful rifles.

My original post should have said major ML company MLs. You know, a manufacturer that's commonly referred to in our discussions here. Which I suppose would also include the house brand from Cabelas and Dixie Gun Works. I'm not sure there are any other major gun stores with a house brand..... are there?

super_hunt54 12-20-2015 09:56 AM

Well, since we are asking a mythical being for something, can we ask for a mythical muzzleloader? I would really like "Santa" to bring me a muzzleloader that would field dress and drag out an animal for me. Maybe pack me up the big mountains since I'm getting old.

Just as mythical, maybe "Santa" could talk the "boss" into being all smiles and happiness when I go order me a Swinglock in .45 caliber with a 1:20 twist. Walnut stock with some really pretty grain. Rather than smiles I'll probably get a foot in the butt :(

Muley Hunter 12-20-2015 09:58 AM

Well, if you get all that.

I want my Hawken!

A Remington smokeless is a good choice.

Muley Hunter 12-20-2015 10:02 AM

For rifle season. :p

Remington does not offer a smokeless muzzle loading rifle and neither does Ultimate Firearms.

I would like a White Thunderbolt in either .451 or have Doc install a .410 barrel.

Champlain Islander 12-20-2015 10:17 AM

You guys are a bad influence. All this talk about flinters got me thinking I need one. Never thought I would want one or need another ML but the seed is growing possibly towards a plains rifle.

I'm lucky. There never was a half stock Hawken that was a flinter. So I never have the temptation of wanting a flinter.

Keeps things simple.

Champlain Islander 12-20-2015 10:23 AM

It would be a range toy for me. My hunting choices would still be an in line just from a confidence level.

I can assure you, I'd like another one too and while we're wishing, the Carbon Stealth. I've held them before and they are stunningly beautiful. :patriot:

WV Hunter 12-20-2015 11:45 AM

For me, a Green Knight Ultra-Lite :)

lemoyne 12-20-2015 12:19 PM

Well it's kind of hard, I used to build side locks and still have a bunch of them, and a half dozen inlines. I guess one of the new copper's if I could get it in a 1-24 twist.
I thought about smokeless but I guess if I was going to shoot smokeless I would dig some cartridge guns out of the storage safe.

super_hunt54 12-20-2015 12:24 PM

Go with a cartridge based BP gun like my .500 BPE side x side lemoyne. Best of both worlds :D Of course finding them on the cheap is a task unto itself I will warn you of that. The quality ones that are well tuned and the barrels matched for yardage anyway. Over many years of collection and shooting I have been pretty lucky with estate sales and such.

I second that!!!

Or a new Cooper I would really like to handle one of those...

d80hunter 12-20-2015 12:56 PM

A Knight Ultra-Lite under the Christmas tree and a Nikon Monarch scope in my stocking would be my wish. It will have to wait till next year unfortunately.

Getting my replica .44 cal 1861 Army revolver tuned up and front sight replaced would be nice too. I haven't shot it in 15 years.

idahoron 12-20-2015 03:41 PM

A Knight Ultra light would be absolutely awesome, but if I only had one wish it would be for a Pedersoli Missouri River Hawken.

flounder33 12-20-2015 04:24 PM

If that ultra lite could be a fast twist 45 that would be my wish, Otherwise it would be a NIB White model 97 451.

Muley Hunter 12-20-2015 04:39 PM

You old farts sure need a light gun to hunt with? Mine weighs 10lbs.

Man up guys. You're getting plump around your food sack.

Man I thought that stuff was nasty when I did drink. I can't imagine it being any better without the Bourbon or Rum or Brandy (whichever one tripped me drunken trigger).

Muley Hunter 12-20-2015 07:04 PM

I prefer my eggs on a dish with bacon.

Now i'm hungry,

super_hunt54 12-20-2015 08:04 PM

mmmmmmmmmm Bacon :D

nchawkeye 12-21-2015 02:13 AM

No interest in another inline, I have one, haven't loaded it in years, too easy...

I'd opt for a JP Beck, 42 inch barrel, swamped, set triggers, Lancaster Daisy patchbox, AAA curly maple stock....

edmehlig 12-21-2015 03:41 AM

Don't know if the Cooper ML are considered Custom if so, then a Knight UltaLight in a 45 cal with a 1-20" twist. If White was in business then I would have opted for the ALPHA that was going to be in a falling block design in a .451 of course.

rafsob 12-21-2015 07:05 AM

The only thing that would tickle my fancy would be a custom sidelock!! Sorry, this leaves me out like Muley.

Not completely.

A Pedersoli Gibbs hunter model in 451 or 40cal would be nice to add to my collection. The current Gibbs 451s are just too darn big for anything but range work and the Hunter is only available in 72cal. Thats one heckuva purdy rifle

Doc White's sporting rifles sure are nice too but they should be considered customs.

MountainDevil54 12-21-2015 08:18 AM

Traditions Woodsman Hawken .50cal percussion is on my list.

Muley Hunter 12-21-2015 08:31 AM

This is suppose to be a fantasy Jon.

Pretty sad choice you picked.

MountainDevil54 12-21-2015 08:42 AM

not really, its cheaper that lyman and probably will shoot as good without the extra weight. We'll find out!

Muley Hunter 12-21-2015 08:52 AM

Yes, but you can ask Santa for anything. (can't believe I said that)

Think bigger, more expensive. Something you'll never get on your own.

Yeah, like a happy face from my wife when I drop 3-4k on a Swinglock next year. Talk about a fantasy!

Muley Hunter 12-21-2015 09:01 AM

You want to adopt me?

super_hunt54 12-21-2015 09:04 AM

Got enough kids robbing my gun safes :D

Muley Hunter 12-21-2015 09:09 AM

Nobody wants me. :(

Wait!! I'm a mountain man.........who needs you. :p

Just meet her halfway by spending another 3-4K on the ring she wants and stretch the easy financing for 8K out for 30 years at 30 bucks a month.
