BPS - Yes I remember the good old days of seeing herds of deer and being very selective too having only being able to shoot 1 deer a year and the two week rifle season was buck only. Anterless followed with a 2, then 3 day hunt. I also remember there being no coyotes around. They didn't start showing up in our area until about the mid-70s.
The PGC screwed up big time with all the season changes and anterless tag allotments. It has come to the point that many are not even going hunting. And I feel sorry for the youth that want to go hunting and then they don't get to see anything. They get frustrated and then quit and I don't blame them.
