Default A successful hunt

The 17th of this month was opening day of the regular firearms season. I haven't hunted with a cartridge gun since 1996. I carried my 58 caliber flinter. At 8:50 am I saw him coming down the hill. headed for the swamp. He was slowly walking toward one of my shooting lanes. When he stepped in, I said, "Baaaa" and he stopped. I did a double lung shot and he ran about 35 yards and crashed. I was shooting a .570 patched round ball, lubed with bear lard and pushed by 85grs of GOEX fffg.

Nice job and congrats to you David!!

Did you build that rifle? It's a nice looking gun and obviously a fine shooter!

Yes, I built that rifle in 1996. It as a Green Mountain barrel, L&R classic lock and Davis double set triggers . I used a pre-carved stock from Pecatonia River CM4. I took a piece of flat iron and fashioned the but plate wide and flat so as to distribute the recoil over a wider area. I have put lots of meat in the freezer with this old rifle.

I'm going to borrow your "Baaaa" call in mid-November. I'll let you know if it works in Michigan.

Congrats Dave.

Congrats on the buck with a flintlock. That's a very nice rifle there.

Oklahoma bucks are suckers for the "baaaa" trick.

Good deal! Thats a darn nice buck. Beautiful rifle as well. Always nice when you make something with your own hands and get to cash in on it year after year.

Nice!!

Well, it's not a custom gun, but I have a T/C Renegade stock with a GM .54 barrel (1:70) and Davis double sets. They're the smoothest triggers I've ever used!!
