Default Pics from the hunt

Just a few more scenery pics and grouse pics from my dads elk hunt. This place always gives us amazing sun sets.

My brother with the grouse he got waaaay up in the mountains. We had decided to stray deeply from the path and go cross country through "thick" timber. What seemed thick was a beautiful walk with lightly downed trees and one hell of an experience. We now know why the elk use the thick timber. Not all of it is packed as tight as it looks once you get into it 50 yards or so. We all all over the place, found bedding spots, watering holes, deer, and walking through a small mountain meadow, we jumped 2 grouse. After we changed our undies from the unexpected excitement of birds taking off under our feet, my brother found this one in a tree and popped it.

Time we arrived back at the camper with the packed out cow.

The elk valley where I spotted the cow. I marked the first place a cow came out with a red dot. The rest of the elk were going out the back door and so I feel very lucky to have had this one pop out and say Hellllooo!! Once they get into that high brush its a head spinning sit and watch game. You see a part of a body and then it just disappears if you blink.

Sure looks a lot closer in the picture than it really is. That spot was probably a good 1/2 mile from the truck. We cut it down to a shorter 1/4 pack out job by moving the truck closer from the start. The wind was blowing straight up that valley. Once you get into those willows/alders ( not sure what they are) it was almost windproof and warm.

I have a hard time judging distance on open prairie or ground as in woods. Of course in woods the distances are much closer. Very nice looking pictures.
