Well on a good note finally. We drained about a quart of oil from the 460 and replaced it with 16oz of marvel mystery oil and diesel fuel. Started it and let it run for 30 minutes and no knocking. For some reason, one of the lifters lost oil and must have been collapsed. Possibly a blockage from sitting for the time that it does. What ever the reason, it seems to be ok now but we're going to run it again to flush it out and then change the oil.

Thank god! I can't fit everything into the jeep for our NM hunting season :D

Quaker State is bad about that with older engines with Hydraulic lifters. Give that Castrol High mileage a shot. May want to check your valve lashing as well. Too loose and it's playing slap and tickle with the lifters which is rough on them. Even though that's what hydraulic lifters are supposed to defend against. I had an old ford that I was constantly having to adjust my valve tension on. PITA old truck but I loved the old girl anyway.

We always use valvoline high mileage with a zinc additive. Oil may have just broke down from sitting. I try not to use the truck a whole lot as they are hard to replace. Oils cheap so its getting a good oil change and filter thats for darn sure. Just one of those things.

Glad to read you may have solved the problem for under $50. Now go out and treat yourself to a Big Mac Big Meal and 2 for 1 apple pies. :s2:
