58cal hits water jug with authority!
Sighted in my 58cal CVA Hawken yesterday, I decided to play with a water jug and make a splash. Got more than I expect from that powerful, hard hitting .570" round ball! That's a seasoned 2x6 the water jug is sitting on top of!

OMG! You hit that thing dead-nuts and looking at the 3rd replay in slo-mo, that jug probably went 10-12 ft in the air.

and straight up! I wish I had the camera zoomed out a bit more.

You're all set for your water jug hunt. :p

I was contemplating taking my .58 for bear this year. I shoot a .575 ball and 100 gr of Goex FFg. Not much difference. This video makes me want to even more. That should be some potent bar medicine.

I've shot only one deer with my .58. Mid-chest pass through at 75 yards or so, with a massive blood trail. Didn't really need the blood trail for the six foot tracking job.

Years ago I was hunting with my friend. He carried a CVA Mountain Rifle in .58 caliber. I watched him take a bead on a nice fat doe that was playing hide and seek around a tree with him. He touched that cannon off and hit her, square in the face. It spun that deer around and wrapped her right around the tree she was using for a shield. Needless to say we did not put the drag rope around her neck when we pulled her out.
That 58 has impressive power. I hunted bear with only a .54 caliber and round ball. The only thing that worried me was when a mother bear and two large cubs came in. I knew I was out numbered. But never felt out gunned. |

Mmmmmmm, I bet that was a sweet smelling gutting job? :eek2:
Do you guys eat the liver? |
Do I eat the liver? No I leave the guts in the woods. I have tried it to be honest and did not like it. A friend once cooked the heart for us and while it was good, I preferred the back straps much more. He loves heart and always says we should keep all of them. He pickles them and then slices them for lunch meat.
