Default Finishing up an older project

Its been quite a while, I've been putting it off because I like to pinch pennies and see if they grow. They don't, so I just went and ordered everything I need to finish her up.

Its a CVA Hawken that I refinished many many many months ago but never upgraded the barrel. It was a percussion and so I had to inlet the lock a bit for the new flint lock to drop in. The previous owner removed the drum and installed a vent with JB weld around it. No way was I going to deal with this conversion. JB weld makes a great bedding agent but doesn't belong around a vent hole.

I just checked out, and she's got a new .54cal barrel heading our way. I'll do my typical elevator rear sight and german silver front sight, give it a nice chocolate brown barrel finish.

After that, she'll be all set!

I did get Hawken #11 in the other day. Its a perccusion kit gun thats never been worked on and is unfired. I still have to measure the twist. Its a 1" barrel so it's most likely a 1:66 twister. If not, no biggy! I've already polished the triggers and what a huge difference that makes, just a simple task and it already feels like its glass.

It is beautiful. Only (1) more beautifuller and not pictured here..... CVA Mountain Rifle. Biggest mistake I made 12-13 years ago was buying my full-stock Traditions Shenandoah and NOT buying a CVA Mountain Rifle or Lyman Great Plains instead.

Using that very thin red hose attached to the nipple, to clean out the drum, is a real PITA. Especially since the bolster screw is frozen shut, during my five year run using 777 FFF.

I need to get that screw out of there. That's a project I'll line-up for the next week ahead, along with replacing those 1882 open sights with a pair of Williams fiber-optics. My 63 year-old eyes demands it.

T7, I've got one of those too, its got the highly figure curly maple stock and USA barrel. I just haven't gotten to it yet. I got hit with sciatica earlier this year and standing for an hour makes my legs hurt to the point of breaking into a cold sweat. Add in more nerve pain and my hands go numb. Bend over for 2-3 hours and I am down for 3 days of laying in bed. Old age is really going to suck for me.

Believe it or not, at physical therapy they put me on a wiggle chair to stretch my lower back. The jeep rocking back and forth may help over time

Wish I could find a left handed version in either a 54 or 58cal.

Got the barrel in today! It amazes me how light she is, maybe 7 - 7 1/2lbs. I'll weight it once I get the barrel all browned and put together. Vent liner lines up perfectly center with the pan as well.

Excuse the poor pic. I still have the tang and under rib to finish up. Once shes completely done I'll go and take some new pics. Got to order some sights from TOW and get those installed.
