Nosler Ballistic Tip MZ

This morning as requested by Wolfer, we tested the Nosler Ballistic Tip MZ. Range was 25 yard. Load was 80g Blackhorn.

The bullet blew through the carpet, shelving, water jugs, and into the phone book. The bullet fell out of the book onto the ground as the book fell. It now weighs 300.1 grain. The new bullet weighs 299.8 grain.

That is not what i would have expected from that bullet.

Carpet clogged up the hollow. I guess that's another one that relies heavily on hydraulic pressure for the cavity to open. Seems like the tip should be what activates the starting.

Maybe try one without the carpet??????

MountainDevil54 08-06-2015 01:56 PM

try one on real game! I bet they open up really good on game.

Starting to look that BC advantage is actually a disadvantage. Pull the tip to increase terminal performance and you're back to square one. Yeah, pull the carpet.

I don't buy that at all. If that was the case Lehigh's wouldn't work either. Just another bullet someone should not use!!

I highly disagree, Thats a great bullet to use if you want to use a good heavy charge and take shoulder shots. This bullet has a very thick copper jacket that holds up very nicely. A great cheap elk /damgerous game or moose bullet. I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

Not sure which one/ones it was Grouse but I'm thinking Ron tested a couple of others that had the same issue of the cavity clogging and not opening because of it. I'll search posts and see if I can find the one/ones I'm talking about.

Yes I know, my point exactly. Hair, fat, tissue, could plug it up to. Next thing people are gonna ask Ron to quit testing bullets cause to many look bad. He already increased the powder so Barnes look better. This isn't directed at you, just sayin. It's amazing what people will do or say to make something bad try to look good.
