Default Lehigh 260g Xtreme

Today the Lehigh 260g Xtreme Penetrator was shot through carpet, plywood, and water jugs. The range was 25 yard. The powder charge was 80g Blackhorn.

1/4 second after impact

Fifth jug remains standing

8 megabyte VIDEO, or a One megabyte video.

The bullet went through the first four jugs, and veered off to the right, missing the last two jugs, and just so barely clipping the edge of the phone book. The bullet was never found, however it left behind these four damaged jugs.

Ron

That is quite a mess - the first 4 bottles are displaying. Now you know why the military is so interested in that bullet.

Could you tell from your impact on the first bottle do you think you were fairly well centered on the bottle?

Sabot, I'll let you know how they perform on Hogs. I just let one of my hunting buddies borrow my .458SOCOM that I loaded some of those up for. Got good accuracy out of them. Right at .75 at 100 for 5 shot group after I dialed them in. Figured since I am out of commission for hog hunting for a while I may as well let my buddy take her out for a spin and see what those would do on the hogs. He will be in Texas the day after tomorrow so I should get a field report within a day or 2 from then.

SHunt are they the brass bullets or the copper Dave makes both. The copper bullets will deform or can deform quite a bit but the brass bullets do not. If Ron could find that bullet and it is going to be down range farther than he might think - I am thinking he could clean it up and re-shoot it....

If the rumor mill is correct Lehigh is going full bore right now producing the XP for Uncle.

Mike, the bullet definitely hit to the right of center on the front jug.

OK I was wondering - I shot one into a gallon jug with a mixture of sawdust from the radial arm and water. Mixed the two together to kinda a uniform solution. I placed it on its side on top of perfectly good white plastic bucket at 80 yards.

Then I took the shot at it I expected the bullet to punch right through the jug but I never expected the amount of pressure it created on the way through. It appears it created nearly equal pressure all the way around the jug. It was quite a rupture, enough that it even broke the out the bottom if the bucket. When walked out to the scene I was totally surprised how out from the target it through portions of the solution. And this was only a .452x250 grain bullet. The 458x260 even has larger and deeper flute to create more pressure.

Even though it is a non-expanding bullet it will get the job done - more than one might expect.

They are the Copper ones Sabot. I don't think he offers the brass ones in .458. Now these are the 305 grain ones not the 260's. I don't think you can load the .260gr up in brass. They are for ML only I believe.

Oh ya he does - that was what I was shooting. The brass ones are a whole lot sharper and stronger than the copper XP's. By law he can not make the Brass XP's to fit a pistol so the bullet is knurled to bulge a cartridge case.

This is the 260

This is the 452x250

These are the ones I got, they don't say on the box anywhere which it is, just says solid copper and or brass like it does on the order page.

I'll go into the shop in the morning and do a little test on them to see which it is.

Believe me they are not copper - all brass...

Here is the copper ones

The copper XP's were out long before the brass so they probably used the same label...
