Default Lehigh CF--Water Jug

This morning, water jugs were introduced to the Lehigh .452 Controlled Fracturing Muzzleloader 245gr Bullet.

The load was 50g Blackhorn, 245g CF bullet, crush rib sabot, W209 primer. The range was 25 yard. The bullet was clocked at 1197 fps right there.

VIDEO

It appears the bullet fractured in the first jug, and three of the petals clipped the front corners of the second jug, before flying off to Eenar.

The main body of the bullet was found stuck at the rear of the fifth/last jug

In my opinion the only way water jug and/or gel tests work is when done simultaneously with two different bullets - same point of entry and same bullet speed. Then compare the depths / damage / what remains of the bullet......etc.....etc.

The difference between the bloodlines and the Lehigh CF is the petals will shear on the CF at lower velocities then the bloodlines. Good for light loads and even longer ranges

Ron, I think you just sold me on those for use in the .50cal TC Hawken (GM 1:28 drop in) for my daughter to use this year to smack a big old Doe. With the easiness that they fracture I figure a light load of around 70gr Trip 7p combined with a dead lung shot out to 75 yards or so she would have a fine load that wont bring the snot bubbles on recoil. (As I said in another post, she is very recoil sensitive) I'll order me a couple packs of them Monday and get them to the range to find a good light load that's accurate. Thanks for the testing!

This is the one I want to get correct? http://www.lehighdefense.com/collect...r-245gr-bullet

That is the exact bullet shot into the jugs.

Comparing bullets is what i am interested in doing, and have been doing for several years now. What bullet would you like to see compared to what was done today?

One bullet i thought about trying is the 250g XTP. Another possibility is the 250g Nosler. The 240g XTP might be worth a look. What about the 240g Deep Curl? The 250g Deep Curl? The 260g Harvester? Speak up! What would you like to see shot at the same distance, same powder, same jugs tomorrow?

If there is no further input, the 250g XTP will probably be shot into the same jug stack, with the same powder charge, at the same distance in the morning.

Ron

It would probably be a good idea to stick to all-copper. So I suggest something like the Barnes XPB 44-cal 225 grain, or the 45-cal 250 grain. Cabelas had them on sale last week.

But that's comparing $1 bullets to $1 bullets. Go with the Speers and compare the $1 bullet to the 29¢ Deep Curl.

Yeah them definitely aint "going to the range to plink" bullets that's fer dang sure. My pockets may be a bit deep but my wife tends to curl up in them. And she BITES!
