260 Dead Centers
Specifically the .40/260.... for the fast twist .45 rifles.
I understand they shoot really flat (high bc) and I've heard good things about them performance wise. Seems like they would pack a good amount of energy even out to 300yds.
Anyone here shoot these? Pro's/Con's? Success stories? Failures?
Just curious, as you don't see alot mentioned about these. I'm going to try some either way, just thought I'd ask.
Thanks

I used them for a couple of seasons back in 2009 or 08. Well the 260gr .50cal sabots anyway. Stopped using them because Cabella's stopped carrying them. I think you can only get them from Precision Rifle now. Performance on a 180# Doe was dropped like a hot hammer and on a 260# Buck was he shoveled dirt with his nose for 3 or 4 steps before rolling over. Was using 120gr Trip 7 and got around a half inch group with them at 100. I was actually considering ordering a hundred or so from them but the Barnes 290 T-EZ just performed outstandingly on paper and Pete (Muley) told me the Barnes perform very well on game.

I cannot test 150 yards distances until October. But by then, I'll be either back to shooting Real Black or Pyrodex Select. I refuse to pay 3.50 an ounce for powder anymore. I can get either Real Black or Pyrodex Select for 1.50 an ounce.
BTW... I refrained from mentioning 777 powder. I am done with that powder and American Pioneer. No more crud rings and no more frozen breechplugs with 777. No more large clumps of moisture driven powder in my jug with American Pioneer.
Not sure if you read my mention of the Barnes XPBs on the Modern board. Thanks for mentioning the Cabelas sale on those XPBs. I bought two boxes of 250 and 225 grain..... each at 13.99 for 20. Real nice-looking all-copper bullet there.

I understand. You like to push more powder down the bore, then aim for longer distances than I.
That all copper 45-cal 250 grain Barnes XPB stands pretty tall, as does the 225 grain 44-cal. Nice looking bullets and itching to try them out. Next week for sure! Just bought a jug of Pyrodex Select to test them.
