Hornady 240gr xtp

I shoot 240 gr xtp' s outta my encore and shoot a excellent patter. I was wondering if anyone uses these and knows how they perform on deer.

I haven' t used any on deer yet (November 1, I' m up in a tree looking to try them!) but they pattern quite well out of my Lyman Cougar, and they sure tear the heck out of my lumber-pile backstop :)

I shot a doe with a 240 gr. xtp a couple of years ago at about 15 yrds. Turned her chest cavity to jellow with good double blood trail.

TKY,
I use the 300 grain XTP, while my hunting partner uses the 240. We have had very similar experiences on deer with both bullets. Very accurate, with golf ball-sized exit wounds every time. Even the entrance wounds are huge. No deer from either one of us has run more than thirty yards, with most dropping on the spot. We are both very happy with the XTPs and won' t change what works. Hope this helps!

I have killed several deer with this bullet over the years. I have tried others but always come back to the Hornady 240 gr XTP. Good luck.

Hornady XTP was one of the first sabots that I can remember. I have had great luck with them on broadside shot under 100 yards. However, I have not had good luck with them on chest shots with the deer coming head on (this was a 40 yard shot too). I shoot these with 90gr of Triple 7.

I have 9 kills with the xtp and all have tipped them over very nicely. Shots ranged from 30 -147 yards. I think they are an excellent deer bullet and have been my go to year after year, providing good reliable performance on the range and in the field.

Hunting buddy was using 240 grn. XTP' s but he said they made too big of an entry wound. He said they' re designed to mushroom at pistol velocities. He now shoots 260 grn. Nosler Partitions out of his Rem. 700ML and is happy with the holes they make. Go figure.

Shot my first BP buck with one yesterday!! At 60 yards he fell where he stood. Great wound all the way through. It did its job.
