Question Cannon

The ultimate muzzleloader, a cannon.

Anybody own/shoot one?

I see them on Gunbroker with some regularity, of late.

It is intriguing but would probably take a toll on my range!

I built a Traditions Mini-Napolean (kit) in 2013. Using 25gr of 2f or 3f, shoots a PRB pretty good. Does a number on stumps at 25 yards. I use the same amount of powder for blanks, using a couple squares of TP. In either case, it makes a very satisfying boom with lots of smoke.

It was an unlucky season for me. I knew it one hour after centerfire season started. I had a doe in my scope at 75 yards. I squeezed the trigger to the semi-auto gas-action WSM and all I heard was 'click'.

From that second-on, I knew it was a long hard hunting season.

Ultimate Firearms BP Xpress .50cal. w/muzzlebrake
Leupold VX6, 3-18x50 CDS Illuminated dot.
Timney 512 trigger.

Excellent custom built rifles and accurate. Follow the manufacturer's directions and its an excellent long range rifle.

You can buy a Remington Ultimate for a fraction of the cost and its nearly identical to the BP-Xpress. The main differnce would be, i dont think Remington is using the Lothar barrel that Ultimate uses.

Still seems a tad high considering you can buy a Rem 700SA SS action for under $350 and build your own that will shoot a MUCH larger variety of powders including smokeless. Ive got under $1000 in my custom Savage/Pacnor and it can produce far higher MV with extreme accuracy.

I'm thinking more like the 10 and 12 pound variety, bowling balls, etc; for example:

I've seen these; frankly, it took me a while to grasp that they could be fired!
What's your projectile?

Edit: Is dustyr the only one to have actually read my post?!

Remington makes their own barrels. They're not even close to the UF rifle quality. However for the hunter, the RU should end up being a great rifle.

Ultimate BP Xpress $2500

Rem Ultimate can be found for around $800-900 and a Drop In ready McMillain TH is under $600.

That leaves a ton of money left over for a custom barrel. Brux, Shilen,,,you name it. You can get any of them for well under $1000 ready to go with all the bells and whistles. A Brux in 45cal can be had for $460 if you dont mind the Savage plug. Contoured Brux blanks are even cheaper, roughly $300. IIRC Hankins charges about $500 for his plug, 25 primer modules and installing it in your Rem 700 contoured blank.

LOL! I read it.
You have to excuse Barnes... anytime the word "Ultimate" is read, his mind automatically goes into a whole different place

I was actually thinking... well a cannon ball IS above the minimum req'd projectile size. Wonder if its legal....
