Ive used light amounts on dry felt wads without any issues either. I put a little on each side and bag them up for a few days before use.

I use it for that as well and although I never use it as a preservative, and I know the naysayers will contradict me, I still do use it as a patch lube in some of my rifles as they like the taste of it. I always flush my barrels after a shooting session so I'm not worried about a "buildup" or whatever everyone else is so negative about. As for an answer to mounting man's post.... Track's Mink oil works well as a cold weather lube, but I've found it gets kinda runny in warm weather. I've never tried Stumpy's Moose Snot, or Junior lube, but I've known about them for some time and just haven't taken the time to try either. I remember one of nchawkeye's posts awhile back saying that he used Sno-seal as a patch lube for years and may try that some day as well.

I would say any lube you use that won't get too stiff in the cold which could make loading difficult would be good but you don't want something that will dry out and flake off the projectile either, as Bore butter will do if left on for an extended period of time. You also don't want something too thin which could allow the projectile to slide forward and we all know that's not good. I was given a couple of tubes of the old "Blue and Grey" a few years back and although it was OK as a patch lube, it was too slippery for a good conical lube.

Not sure what lube is used on NoExcuses bullets, but it worked the best of all the ones i've tried. He says it's his own formula, but everybody says that. I'd love to know what it is.
