Default Got A Deer Today

Hunted a section of property this afternoon where i've killed numerous deer and wild hogs. i'm very lucky to have permission to hunt this place.

Was in a low stand overlooking a game trail through grassland. That stand ain't so great because it's close to the property line, and we can't go there. Got to knock them dead before they cross the fence. That game trail leads from the primary deer bedding area on the adjacent property to a pond, another bedding area and the nearby wheatfields.

Distance: About 80 yards

Rifle: TC Encore .50
Bullet: 300 grain Hornady .452 XTP magnum
Sabot: Crush rib
Powder: 120 grains of sifted 3F Pinnacle
Primer: Winchester shotgun

Scanned the adjacent property but saw nothing. Had about five minutes of legal shooting light left and was packing it in. Looked at the trail and here came a decent sized buck with small antlers. i fired, the buck staggered and took off. After about 30 yards he staggered again and headed for the small draw, where he collapsed. Total distance traveled after the shot was about 60 yards. The bullet destroyed the bucks heart.

Very nice deer. Good shooting. That looks like a lot of fine dinners.
