Talking First Week in the Woods

Well I spent my first week in the woods last week. I was using my Horton Vision xbow and she came through as usual. I had multiple sighting of three monster bucks. First sighting he was coming in from behind me and he didn't quite like the way things seemed. I watched him as he stopped coming my way and look right and then left and then stuck his nose up into the air and very naturally just turned and walked away. I had no shooting lane in the swamp so he was up one on me.

The next sighting was just a bout 1130 at a different location and I was just getting ready to get out of the stand. I had my quiver in one hand and the bow in the other. He came in from my right and was moving at a brisk rate. I managed to stop him but as usual he was just behind a bunch of junk. He turned away and end of story. Now the last time was a few days later and I just got into my stand and was settling down and waiting for more light. At about 0730 I heard a racket behind me and thought it may be a buck trying to get out of a cedar grove. Within about a couple of minutes I heard him blow and turned to see him run off away from me.

I hope to see him in two weeks when I get back into the woods. Now if that wasn't enough, I did bag a nice small, tender doe. Had a hard time finding her because the ground was wet from all the rain we had over a couple of days.

Last, but not least, I shot a hen turkey. She came in from my right at about 36 yds.

Not a bad week in the woods and very productive. I will hunt one more week of archery and then two weeks of ML and one week of gun season. Retired life is good. But it doesn't bother me to be in the woods so much after all the years of working crazy hours and family commitments!!!

sounds like you had a great time. And a nice young doe is always a welcome addition. And a turkey to boot! Sounds like dinner to me.

Good for you. Life is good. My big one came out and I miss judge the yardage and the arrow went just under his chest but he will be back.
