But atleast i did not mention Maxiballs in my first sentence or using BB for lubing them. Projectiles were in no way part of the topic yet they crept in also.

However, i have used BB to "freshen" up old conical lube without any problems.

This fry pan has never had bore butter applied. It works super, and i use it every day to cook our eggs; the eggs never stick.

And I don't care if T/C who sells the stuff, recommends it. I wax my cars not my rifle bores. After you get it clean, use a quality gun oil. Swab the bore with the gun oil. Before you shoot next time, simply take a patch with some alcohol on it and swab the bore. That will remove the oil from the bore. Then a few dry ones.

I also like to push a clean patch down to the breech and pop two caps into it. This blows clean the bolster and also shows you whether or not you have a clear fire channel. If the fire channel is clear, the patch will show burn marks. Your then ready to load.
Dave,

Instead of throwing it in a trash can, throw it my way! I'll be happy to take it off your hands. Bore butter got a bad rep because people used it improperly. I don't store my rifles with it in the bore but I have NO PROBLEM with it as a patch/bullet lube.

Ballistol, Barricade, Break Free CLP, Remoil, etc., etc.... They're all good for storage.

I used BB for years as a preventative and had absolutely no problems. But that was before joining this forum. I thought I knew a lot a bout shooting and cleaning MLs as I've been shooting them since the early 70s. But this old dog learned some new tricks. The only use I have for BB now is to add to my beeswax when making bullet lube for my lead conicals (which I don't use much anymore either).

So, joining the forum made the BB stop working?

fyi i don't use bore butter to store or lubricate i just use it to clean and season alot of times i will clean my gun and think it's as clean as i can get it then run some bore butter down it and sure enough the patch will show some dirty residue that i thought i got already. my answer was in response to him getting the possibility of rust or dirt out of the barrel not every day cleaning after a shooting session. thanks

The next time I use my muzzle loader to fry eggs, I will use BB.

You can't get that kind of butter from a boar.
