Yeah I was talking to my son about that. He has learned a lot from me through the years and I have talked to him a lot about ballistics but weight retention is something we have not talked a great deal about because we have never really recovered a bullet together.

When I told him the difference he thought that seemed like a lot. I said son that is darn near perfect considering how much body mass/bone/hide that bullet went through. Even solid copper bullets you would hope retain that much weight.

So it sunk in with him I had him hold a 250 XTP out of the box and then hold this bullet right next to it. I said see! Not a lot of difference! If this one wasent so mangled you could probably use it again:) He sort of laughed and said Yeah I see what you mean. Still plenty of bullet weight left to shoot a deer.

For a cheap bullet it certainly did its job.

I didn't know they made a 250 gr. XTP I have shot a 240 and 300gr. Does Hornady make this bullet for another company with their logo on them?

I assume that is the .451 in 250...I have a box of 100 of them...

Are they the XTP Mag? I shoot them in my 460 but blow up regular XTP's because of the velocity they are made for.
Don't always believe what they say they are rated for. I spoke to Hornady about the .452 225grn FTX that my brother is shooting in his inline and was told that it can't be right. I told the tech the load and weapon. He tipped and tacked on his computer and said "Humh" He said that they are rated for up to 1600fps in the 45 Long Colt. We are driving them over 1850fps up to 1950fps and still blowing through Illinois deer out to 187yds and yet to recover a projectile or track a deer!!!! I blew through a buck with my 460 this last gun season, hit in the brisket. Blew 5" of brisket out, tore out/open 4 ribs then still left a hole the size of your thumb on the way out of the hide!!!! Hit at a 45* angle to my left. Never took a step!!!
