Default 2013 MZ Buck

It was a challenging hunt this year. The temps ranged from -5 to a high of 16 with wind. I'm blessed with a great state to hunt and access to some good habitat.

While I had hunted this creek bottom in the past, I have never patterned the deer movement. This year I focused on the creek as I felt it provided the best odds for success. By the 3rd day I had zeroed in on the travel patterns. I placed my ground blind at where I thought I'd have the best chance for success. The lead does did not like the new addition to the landscape but nervously proceeded on their way. Finally, the below buck showed himself about 400 yards away. I'd had seen a big 10 but the mass on this one appealed to me.

As he made his way across the field I decided to take him if he presented the shot. He did and the 45 Cal Knight Disc Elite with a 200 gain SST did the job from about 125 yards. I was shooting with 110 grains of BH209. While missing a few points, he is a very nice deer.

He looks to be a monster! Do you know how much he weighed field dressed?
