I was out today for a bit. I sent 10 shots down range. All with 80 grs GOEX 2F.
I used the 365 gr Maxi-Balls today. I lubed them with some Remington Wonder Lube.

The first 5 shots were at 50 yds. Grouped well but a bit left. I liked the elevation so I left that alone. I was holding the bottom of the bull.

After shooting this target I moved my elevation slider down to Zero 0.
I then set up a target at 100 yds. I adjusted the elavation on the sight up 2.5 lines.

and let fly...
As I suspected would happen, impact was left. My first two shots were left edge but elevation was good. I adjusted my windage about 5 clicks right and took another 3 shots. That bull sure is small at that range.

Those Maxi-Balls show some promise!!!

Thanks Dave,
The one thing I noticed is at 100 yds the blade front sight looks huge. I wonder if there is a thinner blade sight available for these rifles?
I think #5 on the 100 yd target was diver error.

That's fine shooting HuntAway. I like the wide flat front blade on Lymans, and don't have any problem centering my target on the top of the flat. I see them better than a thinner blade.

Good shooting, I think, I've never shot with a peep sight. Also, I've never heard of a 365 grain Maxiball, did you cast them yourself and are they .50 calber? I can get the .50 caliber in a 320 grain and a 370 grain, but I've never seen a 365 grain maxiball. Not much of a difference I guess. I don't like shooting them anyway. They kick too much. They sure do a number on a whitetail deer though.

At 80 gr 2f Goex the recoil wasn't that bad. I don't think I would want to try them at 100 gr of powder though!
Whichever weight they may be, they seem to shoot half decent.

If you can stand the recoil from them just wait untill you hit a deer with one, if you haven't already. I shoot them with 83 grains fff goex out of a Thompson Center Hawkins and have taken deer out to 75 yards with them. They have never failed to make a clean kill. If the deer does not drop in it's tracks it will certainly leave a very good blood trail for you to follow. It's just an awsome chunk of lead. With the shortage of pistol bullets around here, I might be forced to go back to bruising my shoulder with them. I have plenty of them and they are still easy to get.

I took two rifles today. The Lyman GPH Caplock 1:32 twist in .50 cal and a Lyman GPR Flintlock 1:60 twist in .54 cal. I would fire 3 shots with one rifle then switch out and shoot 3 with the other. I kept them in the shade when they weren't being shot to help keep the barrels cool.
Today's fun. 440 grain White Power Punch. A damm big piece of lead!
They were a snug fit to get started but once in they went down the tube no problem.

I decided to use the same load as yesterday, 80 gr GOEX 2F with a CCI # 11 Magnum Cap.
The 50 yard offering.

Then the 100 yd shoot. I adjusted 1 more line than what I had yesterday to compensate for the extra weight.

They seem to shoot good in pairs?

I shot 3 targets with the 54. 1 at 50 yds 3 shots offhand, 1 at 50 yds off the bench and 1 at 100 yds off the bench. All shot with 80 gr Goex 3F, 4F prime, .535 round ball with a 0.018" pillow tick patch lubed with Wonder Lube. Swabbed between every shot.
50 yds Off Hand

50 yds Bench

and 100 yds
