Talking My First Turkey???

Well got my first turkey! Started hunting for this smart feathered bird just four years ago. I had been hunting all week and didn't even get a gobble!!! Got up early the day I nailed him and headed out to my area of our property and realized I forgot something back at my trailer. Got back to camp and saw a friend getting ready to go home and decided to talk to him before he left. As we talked a Tom started to gobble up on the ridge behind our camp. I got off my ATV and collect my stuff and headed up the ridge. I called after getting on the ridge and he gobbled back. He sounded close and I decided to set up my decoys and get ready to work this bird. In less then 15 minutes he was in front of me out to about 45 to 50 yds. I froze and didn't want to move and spook him. in my peripheral vision I saw a second bird to my left. The other bird was all fanned out and strutting!! The other bird came in from my left and they had me in a crossfire. When the second bird saw the first he closed his tail feathers and lowered his head and let out a very guttural gobble and charged the first bird. I figured there was going to be an a$$ kicking contest and I quickly shot the first bird. He went down like a bag of hammers and I could finally breath!!!!! He was out to 35 steps when I shot him.

The second bird never saw me and he stopped dead in his tracks and stretched his neck and then ran off. I can't express the feeling I had shooting this bird. I worked very hard for the last four years and I finally got one!

He weighted in at 19.90 lbs. with a 10 3/4" beard and 1 & 1/2" spurs. I am in the running for first place club trophy.

That is a real fine bird... one to be real proud of. Turkeys are a lot of fun to hunt.
