Hey guys, I just around to marking the muzzle of the Rescued Sidekick for indexing sabots. As I did, I decided to take pictures and put a post in the Reference Forum on how I mark the muzzle for indexing sabots.
Then I got to wondering - how many of you pay attention to the position of the sabot when you place it in the muzzle?

I load them the same way you do. At the range and for the first shot in the field. There's rarely time for that stuff when reloading for a second shot in the field. Especially since I use CVA Speed Loaders.

Every time a bullet is placed in the barrel, it is placed so that a petal is facing the ram rod. This happens automatically, without any thought. It would be very very foreign if the bullet wasn't started this way.

Muzzle loaders were the first hand reloaders. As in reloading cartridges, consistency and accuracy go hand in hand.
I've never given it a thought but I can't see why indexing wouldn't contribute in some small or large way in the accuracy of the rifle.
I think I'll start. Sort of like the sprue up thing.

I do it mostly to be consistent and its a easy way to remove one variable. There are so many variables with a ML and if you can remove even one it cant hurt. I would rather a load shoots consistently good or consistently bad while im trying to figure out what load the gun prefers.
Sabot fit is not that hard to figure out but the drag the sabot has going in and coming out could change enough to hurt/help accuracy if you have random petal to land contact.
I dont think indexing will turn a poor shooting load into even a average group but i do think it can possibly turn a very good shooting load into an excellent one.
