Really it a two part question.

1) If I want to keep a hunting POA, I don't remove the barrel from the stock. I'm not confident in my ability to return it to the exact fit to hold POA. This is not a big deal with a Knight and Lehigh as there is almost no blowback. For other guns, plunger guns for example, I don't see how you can clean them up without complete tear down. Do you all always break them down for cleaning? Does this impact POA?

2 When I clean BH 209 I prefer BC Bore Scubber. I've always been a little cautious with it around laminate. If I keep the stock on and clean the BP threads with Bore Scrubber, it gets a little messy. Has anyone had any experience with this or can I hear suggestions?

Josumd just for your own clarification the POA (point of aim) will never change. However the POI (point of impact) may. And really this isn't a big deal. If you remove the action for cleaning and return it with the same torque on the screws. And next season when you check your zero if the POI is off a tad you just adjust you scope/sights. Laminate stocks are more stable and stronger than solid wood stocks. I honestly don't think you have an issue. I would rather adjust my sights than to find out I have a nasty rust spot on my rifle.

I agree that removal of the stock really helps in cleaning most rifles. I never let solvents touch the stock. Windex or soapy water is ok. But I do remove the stock whenever possible. I don't find a drastic difference in POI.

I also break my rifles down to clean them every time. I just feel better about it and I want to clean that trigger too. Maybe I am lucky but I have not had a problem with my point of impact changing much.
I just use a damp rag to wipe my laminate stocks off.

I'm not worried much about season to season but I was more worried about the range to the field.

Looks like I'll switch to a synthetic stock for the last sight in and off to the hunt.

Savage MLII! Smokeless and don't need to clean like with black and subs, just swab the barrel and done. Don't really clean her up untill done for for the season. And since using sabots there isn't even any leading/copper fouling to worry about. A patch of Eds Red and even the sabot plastic comes out PDQ. 10

fwiw, I've never had a change in POI on my knights and I always take them completely apart to clean. I have synthetic stocks and laminted stocks on mine. I'm 100% confident when I go out that it will hit exactly where I aim. Maybe other guns are more prone to change when you take them apart, I don't know.

And since I always take mine apart, I've never had an issue with cleaning solutions on my stock...so I can't really comment on that.

Good feedback. I'll make total breakdown a standard practice and do some testing on POI changes.
