Default Punching barrel pins

Hello all. I have to remove a barrel from a full length stock which means punching out barrel pins. I really do not want to split the stock like I did the first time removing the pins. Any suggestions on punching out the pins? Is it just a matter of taking it real slow and closely watching the pins as they come out?

Thanks.

The pins in my Pa rifle are very tiny . I use a small finishing nail to tap it out just enough to get a hold of it with a pair of needle nosed pliars
. A small punch would probably be better but this works for me

The needle nose pliars that is a good idea.

Recently I had a pin fly off into never land because of the needle nose pliers slipping. Once I found it and when I went to remove the other other one I put a rag over the pin and then used the pliers - for one to stop flying round pins grabbed in a flat surface and two, to stop any marring from the plier jaws.

The drift I use to drive pins out is always smaller in diameter than the pin I am driving - that is a must. That way if the pin comes out easily - I don't make the hole any bigger if I slip.

Just food for thought.
