Default A dirty barrel question

What does your gun do when the barrel is really fouled? I've noticed my Mountaineer drops about 2 inches low at a 100 yards and shoots about 2 inches to the left. Just curious what you favorite muzzy does when it needs to be cleaned. Oh yeah, that is with BH 209 and a Win 209 primer.

Gosh! I guess I have never experienced what you are indcating. When I shoot BH I am normally in a range session and I usually shoot 20-30 rounds, but have not seen a POI shift even when I use different primers...

Just out of curiosity are you digging the carbon out of the BP on occasion? I don't but that might maybe cause a shift...

I've not noticed a change of POI with BH209.

I never let the barrel get too fouled with other powders. When I have trouble loading, I swab.

I have shot BH ever since it came out, I normally do not shoot anything else in the Omega ,Triumph or Endeavor. I have noticed that the first two shots on the range will be out on the edge or even a bit father off the normal POI, but it does not sound like that is what you are talking about. I avoid that situation while hunting as I have figured out a procedure [kind of long drawn out ] that eliminates that problem for hunting. Other than that I have shot as many as 50 shots with out any change as long as the carbon is cleaned out of my modded BP every 20 shots, when using an unmodded BP I have to clean every 8 or 9 shots to keep the POI exact.

When I shoot BlackHorn 209 its the first couple of shots that are out of the group. Once the rifle gets dirty, then it really starts to shoot better.

With the other powders, I swab between shots in my inlines, so consistency is kept and accuracy is not the issue 99% of the time. I am. In my Traditional rifles, shooting roundball, for some reason I find that I can shoot a number of times, even on a fouled bore, and maintain the same accuracy. Then its like all of a sudden, it starts to stray, and that means it either time to swab or quite for the day.

One more vote for BH not changing after the 2nd shot to the 50th.

If you don't swab.

All my BP guns I swab one wet then one dry between my shots, after all we start the day with a clean barrel not a fowled one ! That first shot is the one I'm most interested in. Whatever you decide on, Consistency is accuracy ! Goodluck
