mk-85 question

wondering if i could change breachplug and use red 209 holder with this plunger...i took the gun apart(i just got this one) looks shot one time, it has a 11 nipple but plunger looks bigger than my other mk-85....can you use 209 plunger too shoot 11's?

this gun don't have a set screw the holds the plunger either

The 209 hammer for the MK that I have has a large inverted cone built into the face of the hammer. But this is a newer hammer so I am not sure sure what a older hammer might look like.

The breech plug looks normal for a percussion BP.

That is a #11 hammer. Like SL said, you need the one with the cone on it for 209's...and obviously the different breech plug. I tried 209's in one of mine...honestly, I didn't see any gain ... it just cost more. I went back to #11's now in all my mk's. That system is flawless, for me anyhow.

The cone hammer can ignite both 209's and #11's, but you will likely flare out the nipple prematurely if you use it with #11's.

thanks for the help i was wondering if i got lucky with a 209 plunger...my others a 11 I was thinking it be great to have one -11 and one -209 but I like 11'si got a bunch of caps like a 1000 lol

That looks like my musket cap plunger as big as it is. I believe you can still buy 209 conversion kits from knight.
