Default opening weekend

Well the opening weekend of the season is here and gone. My better half got her one Sunday morning. She thought she was shooting a doe, but when she tracked it down it was a he with 1 inch spikes. He was a 1 1/2 old buck just had tiny spikes. She shot him at 50 yards with her optima using 240gr xtp's and 80grs of T7. She shot through both shoulders and it did some awesome damage. I told her I couldnt believe it ran anywhere, but it did manage to run about 40 yards. She was happy with him and she got her first deer of the season. Sorry but we didnt get any pics of him before we skinned him out. Me on the other hand never got to fire a shot. I saw 5 in a thicket but had no shot. Were headed back tomorrow to hunt the rest of the week. Good luck to all

Congratulations to your wife. I have heard so many people brag on the 240 grain XTP and now your report. I have a carbine that shoots the 240 grain XTP 44 caliber very good. I am almost convinced that this is the best choice for that rifle.

Congrats!
I have had good luck with that bullet as well. But my Omega seems to group most saboted bullets pretty well. Then again most of my shots are 100yrd and under.

Congrat's to your Wife!
In another Thread I satrted I was asking about a smaller load for my wife to shoot. Well after my wife reminded me of how stupid I was she told me she was shooting 80gr's with her 240gr XTP's out of her Kodiak. I did finally remember, I loaded it with a 50gr and a 30gr Pyro pellet. I used them in case she needed to quickly reload and I was'nt there.
All I've (we) and a-lot of my hunting MLer buddies use are only the 240gr XTP's, there Awsome on Deer.
Again Congrat's to your Wife! Also be sure to have your camera ready for the one you get next

Good luck at black river, I haven't hunted the bottoms yet for fear of the skeeters. They have been terrible this fall. My food plots are looking really good in the bottoms. Gonna do some bowhunting there next week after muzzie season goes out in the hills.
