After passing down my Lyman GPR and my Remington 700 ml to my Son I'm getting ready to pick up a CVA Accura Mountain Rifle. I plan on using it for both the regular and muzzleloading deer season here in Missouri. It seems from what I've been reading that a lot of guys are using the Blackhorn 209 powder and I was wonder what you thought, and if was worth the cost of the new breech plug. Any help on what might be the best loads for this rifle would be a great help. Thanks

Myself, i have zero experience with the mountain rifle. I do have experience firing hundreds and hundreds of shots through the original Accura, and also the new version. If you are going to use BH209, it would be best for you to either modify the breech plug, or purchase the made for BH209 breech plug. If you use the original breech plug, one day when you least wish for it to happen you will probably get a hang fire. You could probably start with what ever bullet you used in the 700ml. A start load of BH209 could be 85g. See how things go from there. If you want bullet advice, then start out trying the 240g XTP. Using this bullet increase the powder 5g or so at a time, if you wish, until about 120g.

It may be not everybody will agree, but i believe it is essential to change the breech plug if you wish to shoot BH209. Please be aware, i have never held nor seen the mountain rifle; i presume the breech plug is the same as the Accura V2.

If you bought a Triumph you would not need any special breach plug.
If you look it up there are several posts with pics showing how to revamp the breach plug yourself.
Blackhorn is the most expensive powder out and worth every penny.

Thanks for the advice. I'll order the blackhorn breech plug as soon as I'm sure I can get my hands on the powder here in my area. From everything I've in the threads it's what most people are using. thanks again.

If you can't find BH locally, don't worry. You can buy it from Ed's Gun Shop. Carlos is on this forum, and he works there.

The price he sells it for will probably beat any price you can find.
