Post Hurricane Isaac Thoughts
Well, it looks like the rain that started falling in my area Sunday evening will be finished some time tonight. Believe me, twelve inches is enough. Luckily, it was spread out over several days and the drainage pumps in my area were able to keep up. They can handle about an inch per hour of rainfall for the first hour and 1/2" per hour thereafter.
My power was out less than 48 hours. I'm thankful to have little damage - just a lot of limbs down, a few ridge tiles gone from the roof, and a six foot section of vinyl soffit transferred by the wind from the front of the house to a neighbor's back yard. So here are my post Isaac thoughts. 1. True civilization cannot exist without air conditioning and hot showers. 2. Three days of steady rain and 50 mph wind can wear on one's nerves. 3. When the wind is over 40 mph from the north-east (and only the north-east) the roof vent for my laundry room howls like a wolf. 4. The distant sound of transformers blowing up during a storm is not nearly as pleasant as the sound of chainsaws after a storm. 5. The guys who work for Entergy (LA/TX/AK/MS power company) are heroes. 6. Four days trapped indoors with one's wife and mother-in-law is entirely survivable, so long as the women are level headed and pleasant, and the Scotch holds out. |
Sure is nice to see your name on a fresh new thread/post.

Glad to hear you made it through...
Do we need to plan a roadtrip??? :) |
btw...I've got a recruiter buddy that lives in Covington...I called him earlier today and he didn't pick up the phone...How is that area?? Thanks...
|
Lots of trees down in the Covington area and widespread power outage. Not much in the way of flooding problems except for one subdivision along the Bogue Chitto river. Damn! It just started pouring rain again. My yard is so saturated you sink to your ankles walking on the grass.

Thanks Semi...
I'll keep you in my prayers... |
While all that rain sounds like a bad thing.. at least the forest is safer from a fire. Glad to hear your ok. I have to admit, I was getting concerned when I was watching the news and seeing the rain coming down in NO. I immediately thought.. wonder if he has a boat tied to the front door?
|
The boat was on its trailer in the garage. But with the wind the way it was taking to a boat would be a pretty desperate act.

One woman had a classic line:
"I was surprised to see so much water." Really? |
Glad things were not worse for you Semi. How long was your power out?
