Wow! That's one biiiig bear! I've seen the color variations with black bears, but the size made me think it was a brown bear. It certainly looks muuuch heavier! Unless your BIL is a really little guy. Roughly how tall would it have stood?

Based on the length of the bear I believe that bear should be about 300 lbs. If it is anything like the bear in eastern TN it should be just a tad heavier than your brother in-law estimated. It's a great looking color phase bear. I would love to kill one of the blonde bears. I haven't bear hunted I quite awhile. When I was younger and was healthy I use to bear hunt a lot and train dogs. It is exciting and more fun to train the dogs. Congrats...

I will not shoot a bear unless it is going to attack me. My reasons are that the meat tastes like crap and they are cute!!!

I hear bear meat is quite good. Is it similar to anything else?
Is spring bear better than fall without all the fat? I'm guessing the fat may be nasty.

in NM you are not required to take the bear meat. Hes tried donating it before and no one takes it.

I wish Colorado was like that. We not only have to take the meat, but we have to take the hide and head in for inspection.

It's not worth the trouble for lousy tasting meat.

Hes mad! Taxi called and said, 1 in 5 bears tend to lose the hair when they comb it.... Yep, his bear hide is losing the hair so they are just going to sell it off for him. A skull mount is going to happen though.
